~Lessons in Thievery 101~ From my 2 year old

This should make your day!!

My friend Amanda came over today with her 5mo old, Landon. We were watching "Meet the Browns" by Tyler Perry. Jason does not like watching my Madea movies so I have to find someone as warped as me to watch them with. I can laugh til I cry watching these movies, but I digress. Throughout the movie, AJ was playing in the living room, on the couch, in the floor, in his playroom. He was all over the place. In the middle of the movie AJ comes over with a sucker in his hand. All of the Halloween candy is located under the island in the cabinets. I told him "no" because he had already eaten a brownie and some smarties. We were going to be making dinner soon and in all my mommy wisdom figured he'd had enough sugar for the time being.

Well.........

Baby Landon started getting fussy near the end of the movie so Amanda got up to put some water in the bottle. She came back to the couch laughing. She told me she had "caught my sneak" I looked at her like she had two heads. Caught my WHAT??? "I caught your sneak" I had no idea what she was talking about. Then she proceeds to tell me that my son, my little angel is sitting in the cabinet under the island chowing down on suckers. She said as soon as she walked around the island he threw the sucker into the cabinet. I thought I would die laughing. I walk around the island and my little baby was sitting in the cabinet, door half way ajar with one leg sticking out waiting for me to come. He was looking for me.

I walked around and asked him what he was doing and he just grinned the biggest grin with those dimples. It was SO hard not to crack up. I got him out of the cabinet. Told him
"don't tell mommy stories, I need you to tell me the truth. Were you eating suckers???"
"I'm sorry mama"
"thank you for your apology but were you eating suckers when mommy told you no?"
"Yes ma'am"
"Go sit in your chair"
"I'm sorry"
"Thank you for your apology but go sit in your chair"
So he goes and gets in his chair while I get the sucker out of the cabinet. Did I say sucker?? I meant suckerS. Yes suckerS, plural. Twenty suckers to be exact. I'm really not sure how long this kid had been up to this but there were 20 suckers in the cabinet.

Here's the cool thing though.

1) He knew he was in trouble to begin with. As soon as Amanda saw him he threw the sucker.

2) After he was caught, he didn't go right back to eating the sucker because somehow he knew I'd be coming.

3) He would pull the wrapper off of the sucker and then hide the evidence in the back of the cabinet UNDER boxes!!

4) He was smart enough to hide this practice from me for who knows how long.

I believe at 2 years and 4 months I have a little genius and it scares me to death!!! I called my mother today to tell her this story. She cracked up at first, marvelled at his complex little brain, and then proceeded to tell me that my son is JUST LIKE ME!!! Great, just great. I do believe that I am going to have my hands full!! After thinking at great length how to handle this particular situation, I decided that I would talk him through the first offense and threaten him with a sore hind end if he ever pulled this trick again. Of course I did this all biting back pure hysteria. I wanted to laugh so hard I couldn't stand it. I explained to him that when mommy says no, I mean no. Sneaking candy is not nice and he is not to do it again. I received the mandatory "yes ma'am" of understanding and that was that. Hopefully the end to the criminal thievery. Too freaking funny. I just had to share. Hope you enjoyed another story from the Spears household!!!

We made up and all is peace and love again.

How can you be so mean to that little angel, give that poor kid a sucker!!!.

He is a very cute kid, I bet it was hard not to laugh, but it is best for all that he knows that you mean business.
